🎥 Welcoming the Levelling Up statement

Jason welcomed Michael Gove’s Levelling Up statement in the House of Commons chamber while he campaigns for more investment in our area.

I really welcome this statement. I welcome that Kirklees will be an education investment area. I welcome that Kirklees will get extra support from the high streets task force, but can we also make sure that it is not just the swanky cities of the north like Leeds that get levelled up, it’s our towns like Huddersfield, Milnsbridge, Holmfirth, Marsden, Slaithwaite and, of course, Doncaster, Madam Deputy Speaker.

I couldn't agree more. I’ve got nothing against Leeds; I love Leeds, but it is also the case

That’s not what it says about you 

My name is hymned by children in Leeds streets, I know. 

The serious point it’s also the case there is cultural investment in Kirklees, not least in Huddersfield, and my hon. Friend is absolutely right, more needs to be done for all of the authorities in Kirklees and more needs to be done for the towns, surrounding these in West Yorkshire.
