Jason McCartney

Holmfirth, Lindley, Crosland Moor and Netherton
Flying High - RAF Officer
For 9 years I was an officer in the RAF
serving at home and abroad. At the age of 19
I was in charge of 30 people who called me “sir”,
it was a big responsibility at an early age, but I
used the experience of my SNCOs. I always
volunteered for oversees tours, spending time
in Las Vegas (yes we go on exercise there)
Cyprus (very hot) and Turkey (they’re mad about
football).
My time in northern Iraq gave me an
insight into
the country’s problems. After I left a massive
car bomb killed 100 people in the marketplace
I’d been in just a few days earlier.”
Him Off The Telly

I have been the face of Calendar’s
weekend News & Sport on ITV for 7 years. It’s been great fun interviewing the
likes of David Beckham, Geoff Boycott and Dame Kelly Homes.
I first got into broadcasting hosting
the very early morning show on Huddersfield FM (now Home 107.9) back in 1995. I
then worked at BBC Radio Leeds before joining Calendar.
Blue through & through
My top Terrier moments:

Favourite player: Boooothy. Closely
followed by Marcus Stewart and Darren Bullock for his bulldog spirit.
Favourite match: The 1995 playoff final
at Wembley. I couldn’t talk for 2 days after singing “Iain Dunn’s got no hair”
and “Rocket Ron”.
Proudest moment: reporting pitch side
for Calendar at the 2004 playoff final win over Mansfield. “I had to be
impartial but inside I was jubilant.”
Favourite away ground: Elland Road –
“Can’t wait to get 3 points there next season!”
